What is the meaning of ‘MASTER’.?
‘A man who has people working for him, especially servants or slaves’
Robinson Crusoe is a adventures story it tells us the adventure of crusoe.Crusoe was born in the year 1632.In the city of York. His family was good. His father was very wealthy as a merchant and married Crusoe’s mother whose family name was Robinson. His father’s name was Kreutznauer but they always call themselves Crusoe so his name became Robinson Crusoe. His father gave him a good education and wanted that Robinson become a lawyer.Robinson heart was set on going to sea, and nothing that his parents or friends could say could make him change his mind. One morning his father called Crusoe to his room and talked to Crusoe very seriously about Crusoe’s future .Father told Crusoe that if he would stayed at home he would have all that he could want. His father also warned Crusoe about the dangers of the life at sea and asked him not to think of leaving home any more. For a short time Crusoe followed his father’s advice, but after a few weeks the desire for adventure returned .And then Crusoe decided that one day he would run away from home.
After one year later Crusoe was in the seaport of Hull. One of Crusoe’s friends was going to London in one of his father’s ships. Crusoe’s friend persuaded him to go with them, saying that it would cost Crusoe nothing for the voyage. At that time Crusoe even not tell his parents that he was going but on the first of September in the year 1615 went on board the ship, which was going to London. As ship in the sea they out of harbor than the wind began to blow strongly and the waves to rise. As Crusoe had never been to sea before, he began to feel ill and frightened. He decides that if I ever got safely on land again I would go straight home and never go to sea again after this Sea was calm and the wind had dropped. Crusoe slept well during the night and in morning felt much better and happier. His friend came to see him and put his hand upon Crusoe’s shoulder.
Than they rich to London Crusoe Said that in London I was lucky enough to make some good friends .one of them was the captain of a trading ship which had been on the coast of Guinea. Captain was going there again and he invited Crusoe to go with him. He told Crusoe that the voyage would cost nothing and he also added that if you liked to take anything with you to sell, you do so and might make a very good profit. Crusoe accepted his offer and went on the voyage with him.Crusoe carried with him about forty pounds, worth of toys and other articles which the captain told him that he could easily sell. This voyage made him a sailor and a merchant. Crusoe brought home from the voyage over five pounds of gold dust which he sold in London for three hundred pounds.
The success of this voyage encouraged him to go again. Although his friend the captain died soon after they returned, Crusoe decided to go to Guinea again by the same ship. He left two hundred of his three hundred pounds, profit in the safe hands of the captain’s widow he took with him on the voyage nearly one hundred pounds ‘worth of goods to exchange for gold. he hoped this time to make an even bigger profit. It turned out to be the un-happiest voyage that I ever made. When Crusoe and his friend were going towards the Canary Island a Turkish pirate ship chased them. They sailed as quickly as they could, but pirate ship was much faster and caught them within a few hours. The pirates killed three of our men and wounded another eight. They were all taken as prisoners. The captain of the pirate ship made him slave. At the end of the voyage he took Crusoe to his home, and Crusoe hoped that when he went to sea again he would take me with him. I thought that sooner or later he would be taken a prisoner himself by some Spanish man of war. Then I would be free. But when he went to sea the captain left Crusoe to look after his garden and do the work in the house. When he came home again Crusoe was sent to live on board the ship to guard it. Here Crusoe bean to think of ways of escaping, but had no opportunity at all until two years had passed. His captain often would take one of the smaller boats belonging to his ship. Crusoe would go with him to row the boat with the help of one of his servants. Sometimes one of his relations, a Moor, would come instead of the captain.
It is so happened that one day the pirate captain had some very important guests coming. Captain wanted to entertain them on board his ship, and so he sent to the ship a very much larger quantity of food than usual. Crusoe said that he got everything ready and waited the next morning for the captain and his guests to arrive. But when he came on board the captain was alone. He told Crusoe that his guest was not coming after all. He ordered to Crusoe to go out as usual with the Moor and catch some fish. Crusoe resolved that this was the time to escape and so he began to prepare the boat, not for a fishing trip but for a voyage. Crusoe asked the Moor to get something for them to eat. Crusoe said that it was not good that we should eat the food which our master had sent for his guests. The Moor said that this was true and went to fetch some biscuits and fresh water .While he was away Crusoe hid in the fishing boat a large quantity of the Captain’s food. He also hid a gun an axe a saw and hammer. With the food that the Moor would be bringing, the fishing boat now had plenty of food on board for quite a long voyage.
When all was ready Crusoe set out on his fishing trip with the Moor and one servant. We passed the entrance to the harbor and continued until we were about a mile from the shore. We fished for a time, but caught nothing. Then Crusoe said to the Moor that we will never catch anything here. We must go further out to sea. He agreed and Crusoe stepped forwards in the boat to where the Moor was sitting. Thus some for a few times Crusoe cheat Moor and then he pointed gun to Moor and tells him to swim and if you will do it I will not harm you but if you come any nearer to the boat I will shoot you. For some time he stared at Crusoe but at last he turned out and began to swim towards sea. Then Crusoe turned to the servant who was called Xury.he was very faithful to Crusoe and he promised him that he will make him great and also added if you not swear to be true to me I will throw you into the sea.
And they rich at  the mouth of river and they waiting for night and they had to go ashore so here as we had no more fresh water then Xury.he go and return as he do. In this book here many chapters which mentioned Robinson Crusoe’s’ MASTERNESS’. In Chapter number 4 when Robin son's  ship was broken but he was good swimmer but he was power less in rough sea. it was very big wave which carried Crusoe  forward and left on the shore  half dead with amount of water He had swallowed, he had just enough breath left to get up and stagger  towards the land before another wave overtook him. He soon found that it was impossible to avoided being overtaken by the sea. He saw another wave as high as a hill coming towards me. He wanted to try to swim with it even further up the beach. When it reached him he was buried to a depth of twenty feet. He held his breath and was carried forward at high speed. This happened several times until at last he reached the foot of a cliff. He managed to climb to the top and there he sat, free from danger. Here no any one who gave him company? There was a no trace of them to be seen anywhere and he concluded that they must have been drowned .Now the story is in Crusoe’s word  by which we can say that he is a narrative of’ MASTER.’.
When I was at sea shore I trying to get a shelter for a night and it was really very dark night and horror for him. But then he try to  adjustment and I build my  own building and  I  stay there as I wish .I made  a large cross of wood and set it up on the beach where I had landed. Upon its arms I carved the words, ‘I came on shore here on September 30th in the year 1659’on the sides of the upright post I cut a small notch with my knife every day. Every seventh day I cut a notch twice as long. On the first day of every month I cut another notch twice as long again. This was how I marked the passage of time.chapter-6 is entitled as Robinson Crusoe begins to explore HIS Island. In this chapter he said that on the fifteenth of June ,after I had been on the Island for ten months, I began to explore my  Island .first of all I went up the river where . I had first brought my raft on shore. Two miles upstream, cool and clear. The next day I went even further   inland and found that the country became wooded. Then I prepared things which I need so I can live happy life on my Island.
I build a canoe. Then for food I start farming and grow something helpful me. Then there was a strange discovery.  One day about noon as I was walking on the sea –shore, I made a very strange discovery. I was alarmed to see the print of a man’s bare foot in the sand. I stood as if I had been struck by thunder. I listened and looked around, but there was nothing to be   seen or heard.
When he   saw some person that some cannibals are try to killing some person so he saved a person to whom he gave name Friday because of this action we can say that he was a master and like father for Friday. He taught his English language to Friday and tells him that you must tell me as ‘MASTER’. And he also tells him to give him respect and response in positive way and he tells Friday for farming. Then one day there was quarrel with some cannibals while Friday killed a person who fights with Robinson Crusoe. He also gave Friday lesson of Christian religion. Then they are live as a companion in canoe. One morning they are at sea shore Friday came running back and told him that
‘O master, O master, bad things master! ‘This line is present the mastery of Robinson Crusoe. When they are saw that there are twenty one altogether and they had three prisoners. Then they are quarrel with each other and Robinson saved their lives who were prisoners and so they are very thankful to Crusoe. Among the three one was the father of Friday so he was very happy. In the very beginning of Chapter -12 here is one line that ‘when Friday’s father had recovered a little I called my servant to me.’ In the chapter no.-13 there is one line that is like’ Master.master they are come they are come it also represents Crusoe’s mastery on them.  Here some lines which present Crusoe’s mastery.
‘’ My island was now like a small kingdom.’’ (Chapter-12 Crusoe’s Guests on the Island)
‘’I was the king and seated around the table were my people.’’
In the whole story Crusoe is very possessive about Island and the people whom life he had been saved .And in whole story he represent the things as they are only for him. He used a capital’’ I’’ which represent the theme of Capitalization. He taught Friday his language and his religion so it presents a theme of COLONIZATION. So we can say that Robinson Crusoe is a narrative of ‘Master’ in Robinson Crusoe.

  2. Aarti, u have discussed on the summary of the novel.
Here, u have to discuss about Robinson Crusoe as a Master.
U have to show him as a narrator.
But, u made a good attempt by putting in the quotes from the book.
